Goonie Jr
Location
Portland, OR
Date
08/2022
Materials
Oregon Black Walnut wood slab, with clear table top resin for holes.
Finish: 3 layers of Rubio Monocoat, topped with Black Forest Ceramic base & top to make the desk hydrophobic.
Goonie Jr. is a bigger than life modern desk for a modern world. He comes from the same slab as Solar Flare and they were both commissioned to be a 1 of 1 unique piece of furniture and art. He stands tall at 70 inches in length, 26 inches in width, and 1.75 inches thick.
The client wanted perfectly straight lines throughout, with a 1/4" round-over edge. This was achieved by doing a double pour of resin: clear deep pour resin to fill the top side of the branch seen on a right side and a second pour to fill in the live edges in the bottom portion. The result was a stunning crystal clear edges throughout and a softness that can only be accomplished by doing 5 different layers of finishes to make this table a legacy desk.
Goonie Jr. is so long that he was reinforced with 3 flushed c-channel beams underneath, in order to control the wood movement over the years. The client chose to put him on top of Uplift V2 stand up metal legs, so I retrofitted precise threads for the client.
